Interior Design Lobby Still Seeks to Limit Right to Work

Lobby Makes Last Minute Push to Enact Restriction on Bidding
Even as the legislative session winds down, the interior design lobby has not given up in its quest to pass restrictive legislation to prohibit the majority of designers from offering their services to the Commonwealth on state projects.

By limiting the bidding law to only those designers who have a “nationally recognized certification” – whatever that means, but surely the NCIDQ would qualify – the lobby can cut-out the vast majority of the design community and tie the hands of the contracting agency in deciding on the most qualified designer who meets the bid specifications for the job.

Even if you don’t currently bid on state work, this bill affects you and your right to practice.  Having been unsuccessful in its attempts to restrict the entire practice of design to only those who have passed the NCIDQ, the lobby now seeks to methodically whittle away at the rights of designers and limit their ability to work piecemeal.

Please take a few moments to send an email to the members of the Senate and ask that they Oppose HB 2999.
